HISTORY

The Janssen family, originally from Arendonk, consecrates one of the most important lofts in Belgium. They made history, as there is no other loft in the world that has been so important for the development of modern racing pigeons.
This loft was founded in 1872 by Henri Janssen, one of the founders of the Arendonk pigeon club. After his death, his sons decided to continue his pigeon racing hobby and to develop his loft with special attention to the widowhood system.

The loft

His lofts are modest, divided into four sections; pigeons, breeding and two widowhood lofts. In one of them are the major breeding birds, another one is only for the female widowhood pigeons. For this loft the most important thing is to keep the sections as clean as possible to keep the pigeons healthy.
They have 35 pairs of adults that are almost 9 months together. They never change the pairs during the season, for them it is vital the color in the eyes, especially in the pearl-eyed pigeons.
After mating, pairs are formed one at a time. When they have become accustomed to each other, the pairs can leave three times a day, giving both females and males the opportunity to fly.
